SayHao is an AI practice tool. It cannot help in an emergency and it is not a counselor.
How SayHao responds to crisis messages
This is our protocol for messages that mention suicide, self-harm or wanting to die:
- Detection. Every message you send is checked by a keyword filter in English and Chinese before it reaches the AI. The AI also checks each message and flags signs of crisis.
- Stop the role-play. When either check fires, the AI does not answer in character. You see a clear message with the crisis lines above, in English and Chinese.
- Always answered. Crisis messages are answered even if you have run out of daily replies, and they don't count against your limit.
- No encouragement. The AI is instructed never to encourage, describe or give methods of self-harm.
- Record keeping. We keep a count of how often the crisis response is shown (without the message text in that count) so we can report it where the law requires and improve the filter.
Adults only
SayHao is for adults 18 and over. We ask for your birth year at sign-up. If a user tells us they are under 18, we turn off chat on that account.
